Frequently asked questions

Is the operation covered by insurance?

For surgery in our private clinics, complementary hospital insurance (LCA) with semi-private or private cover is required — basic insurance (LAMal) alone is not sufficient. Self-paying patients are also welcome. We also work with all international insurers — for example UN, WHO, Allianz, Cigna or Uniqa. If in doubt, contact your insurer or our secretariat.

Am I obliged to have surgery?

No — the decision is always yours. Dr Jenny's role is to present the benefit-risk balance of each option, surgical or conservative, so that the best care can be decided together.

What should I bring to the first consultation?

Your insurance card, a referral letter from your general practitioner if you have one, your recent imaging (MRI, CT, X-rays) and a list of your current medications.

How long is the hospital stay?

As a rule, expect 4 to 5 days after a simple lumbar disc herniation. The exact duration depends on the procedure and your recovery — it is decided together with Dr Jenny.

How long off work after lumbar surgery?

Expect at least 4 to 6 weeks off work, while living normally — without carrying loads over 5 kg or practising sports that strain the spine.

In which languages are consultations held?

Consultations are held in French, English or German, at the patient's choice.
